TV On The Radio is coming....

I can not wait for this to come out. Please support real musicians. The new TV on the Radio DEAR SCIENCE will be released on 9/23. The ban recently sat down with Rolling Stone to dish about the record and why they want to "dance". I will be seeing the band on 10/14 & 10/15. Can not WAIT!!!!! "Golden Age" the first single for the album is dancey with enough TVOTR substance and background symphonics to break out dancing everywhere. Its obvious some time off was good to this band and this album, while a bit more "funky" is much more mature. And in a weird way, not overtly hip. We shall see what it does when it breaks, since this band have been the unspoken "next big things" for years in the music industry.

Daily Rounds.....

So last night I checked out The Kills at Webster Hall here in NYC. First, I would beg of any artist or band coming to play NY PLEASE DO NOT SCHEDULE A SHOW HERE. Seriously, the sound is completely off, there is a dance club going on right underneath you during the whole show and the place blows. It just reminds me how sad some people in NY are that this is a hotspot for them. Secondly, can this hipster nonsense be over? And thirdly, if this band comes to town, YOU MUST CHECK THEM OUT. The two piece, technically from England, brings together a dark BRMC vibe with the unexpected joy of old White Stripes. The chemistry is incredibly apparent between Allison, from punk/emo band Discount fame and Jamie Hince, British rocker and boyfriend of Kate Moss. Hince has an electricity not usually found in a small band and his guitar playing is methodical and emotional at the same time. Allison truly is what a rock star should be. The girl gives some of the best female vocals I have ever heard and brings an energy similar to a Robert Plant or Steven Tyler to her performances. I have to say with the new wave of rock acts marking their territories, I think the ladies my pull ahead finally in this battle. The show was met with a few difficulties like a late start and then being shut down for twenty minutes so the FDNY could inspect multiple electric fires everywhere. It was hard to get back into the groove once they could start playing again and since the crowd were a bunch of wankers. It didn’t matter cause the band was great and I highly recommend checking them out if they come around your way.

Today’s Daily Rounds are just a bit of snippets of stuff I was not aware until this week and some cute little animal news. This weekend we will be putting together what you should be listening to music wise and our TV roundup…

* Barbara Walters used to get crazy. The well known reporter published her memoirs and she revealed that in the 1970’s she had an affair with married U.S. Senator Edward Brooke, who was also the first black Senator elected to the position. She will be on Oprah next Tuesday to dish the dirt. Maybe O will make her cry.

* Lou Reed married his longtime partner Laurie Anderson in a small ceremony in Colorado earlier this month. Congrats!

* Dave Navarro is schtooping my favorite porn star Stormy Daniels! If you don’t know who I am talking about, she is in the R Rated comedy, 40 Year Old Virgin and Busty Cops 2!!!! His ex-wife Carmen Electra just got herself engaged her boyfriend of less than a year Rob Patterson from KORN.

* Its good luck to throw your baby off a mountain in India. Let’s keep that custom over there, okay?

*This little monkey is too much. Conchitta, a white-naped mangabey born at the London Zoo, has taken to a teddy bear as her mother, since her mother was unable to care for her from birth. And in other monkey news, Ricky, the special needs monkey due to an attack at birth, celebrated his birthday at Natureland a small zoo that has been forced to close its doors in New Zealand due to lack of funds. Come on people pony up the dough to help these people out.

* And lastly, Mariah Carey is officially crazy. Carey married Nick Cannon this week in Bermuda. The couple of a few weeks married in a small wedding ceremony at Carey’s new pad down there. Oh and there is no pre-nup. I can’t wait until this bitch loses her mind again. Mariah can make Britney Spears look like mom of the year when she gets on a roll. No confirmation yet from Carey’s or Cannon’s reps, but many relatives and “close sources” have already confirmed the nuptials. Hmm, I give it three months.

Langhorne Slim on David Letterman

Last night, Langhorne Slim and his band War Eagles had their network television debut. The amazing indie folk artist did a hell of job performing "Restless" on The David Letterman Show. I love Langhorne and his honest style. The song, along with his new album, brings a great maturity to the blues/folk stylings he is known for and shows a depth not capitalized on with his previous works. Langhorne can virtually take an audience to wherever he wants his storytelling over acoustic guitar and I am so glad to see this talent being recognized. I have known Slim for many years now since we went to Purchase College together and even back then we all knew this day would come. He has been working on his craft since school, playing small clubs all over NYC and the states and continues to grow his fan base ten fold with each year.

To see one of your friends become well known for their honest talent and shake hands with David Letterman is pretty mind blowing. DAILY ROUNDS....

Let's start things off today with the best news of the week - RICKY GOT KICKED OFF OF PROJECT RUNWAY!!!!! Oh happy day!! What's amazing is that this is the first time this cry baby did not shed a tear all season. What a punk! Last night's challenge was to create an outfit for the lovely lady wrestlers of the WWE!

While everyone really went for the challenge, Ricky used the worst color, Orange, on his olive skin toned wrestler and basically made a bathing suit. While others failed at the task like Romi and Sweet Pea, Jillian and Christian killed it! But what was super awesome was Chris, who was able to come back earlier on in the season after he had been Auf'd won it. Chris' design was practical, seemed super WWE style and his "diva" LOVED IT! And so did the panel. I am so glad he is finally getting the recognition his hard work deserves. Here is the winning outfit and the designer.

Next week, I think they will be going on their extended field trip, a la a trip to Paris, or something. It's getting super close this time around and I can't wait to figure out who makes it to Bryant Park!!!!!

+ Billy Joel plays one last show at Shea Stadium. Joel will be playing the last live performance in the stadium on July 16th of this year. The METS will be moving to a new stadium adjacent to Shea for their 2009 season. Joel will now join the club of the infamous performers who have rocked out Shea in the past, like the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. I am sure it will be costly, but this will be worth it!

+ Speaking of the Beatles, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has passed away at age 91. Maharishi, who developed the Transcendental Meditation movement, was well known for his impact on the Beatles in their later years. He also aided Donovan to growth within his spirituality. Maharishi will be mourned by many of his followers in the Transcendental movement, but his passing is not looked upon as tragic thing to them.

+ Val Kilmer will voice of KITT, the car in the new version of "Knight Rider" NBC is producing. Will Arnett was tapped for the part original, but he recently backed out, leaving an opening for Kilmer.

+ Rolling Stone breaks down the Britney Spears meltdown. Some of the revelations that RS RSturned up is that she had breast implants as a teenager, she cheated on Timberlake and her family worked her like a dog when she was a child. What a mess.

+ Kirsten Dunst has reportedly checked herself into rehab. The actress has found her wat to the Cirque Lodge in Utah to squash a few addictions of hers. Word is the death of Heath Ledger recently triggered Dunst to quit the nose candy.

+And finally, She & Him, Zooey Deschanel's project with M. Ward are playing some shows in the next few months and their first album will be released on Merge Records on March 18th.

Modest Mouse was number one...

Modest Mouse Hits # 1 on Billboard chart



So I am excited to see that the cover of Float On that the American Idol semi-finalists did a few weeks ago have not ruined Modest Mouse’s cred. The boys struck gold this week with hitting the number one spot on the Billboard charts, beating out Joss Stone and “American Idol” alums Elliott Yamin and Chris Daughtry. “We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank”, the bands latest release ending the week by selling nearly 129,000 copies. This is a first for this band and it’s incredibly exciting I think for credible rock music! Maybe this shows that the music industry might be changing paths, but I won’t hold my breath. The guys have been on fire recently, with the amazing addition of original guitarist of The Smiths, Johnny Marr. (I mean freaking Johnny Marr is in their band, what the heck???!!!) It’s pretty crazy to think that less then 10 years (yikes…10 years) ago this band was playing to 200+ crowds at NYC venues like Tramps and Coney Island High (RIP). Who knows if it was the newest album’s songs or just the mere presence of Marr that assisted Modest Mouse to make this leap, but whatever it is, it’s working. Hopefully they can maintain a top slot on the list for weeks to come.

This band has really made it apparent that there is no need to sell out, change your image, or cater to the masses when you are talented. It might have taken them longer then other bands to get here, but the past few years for Modest Mouse has made them a band almost everyone knows. Its kind of exciting to know the general public can really get down with this. Here’s an article from SPIN where Isaac Brock and Johnny Marr discuss their collaboration and what brought the pair together within Modest Mouse. I will upload the remainder of the article for those of you who don’t have the April 2007 issue yet.
