There is no Pepe Silvia.....

If you have not been watching the fourth season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, then you are missing out on the funniest show on TV. The completely off the wall, flipped the script comedy has the least PC storylines to ever appear on TV, yet is one of the sincerely funny comedies ever. I have been obsessed with the show since I first caught it on FX, but this season has reached far beyond my already high expectations. If you are unfamiliar with the program, it’s a comedy that follows the “lives” of four good for nothings, played by co-creators Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, as well as “Curb Your Enthusiasm” alum, Kaitlin Olson, who live in Philly and work in a dive bar, they partly own with their father figure and severely disturbed Frank, played deliciously by Danny DeVito. Think Seinfeld on acid and crystal method. In previous seasons, we have watched the gang get hook on crack, get on welfare, date trannies, bomb buildings, try out for the Philadelphia Eagles and form a rivalry with a family of incestuous freaks. This season has taken the acid tripiness of the show to a whole other level, with the episode “Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack”, which you can watch in full at Hulu. In the show, Dee has a heart attack, which forces Charlie and Mac to get a job with health benefits. They stumble upon a mail room gig that they split for the pay and benefits. While Charlie is down in the mail room toiling away, Mac is finding out if he can save the company and move up the ladder ”Secret of My Success” style. What follows could be the funniest two minutes I have ever watched on TV. Charlie and Pepe Silvia will haunt your funniest dreams!



What’s great about the show is that the cast and creators are all friends in real life, and actually they have two married couples, Olson and McElhenney and Day and Mary Elizabeth Eliis, Charlie’s real life wife and “The Waitress” who he has an unrequited crush on throughout the series. And some good news for fans or will be fans, FX has picked up the program through at least a six season.

NBC strikes out with US version of "Kath & Kim"

The unfunny atrocity that was Kath & Kim last night just perpetuates my fear about the upcoming Americanization of AbFab. I had heard the echoed poor reviews for the program, but I thought I would give it a chance, since I remember how much I couldn’t stand watching original episodes of The Office and now it will be a favorite comedy of mine forever. But there is a major difference between comedy growing pains, which affects even the best show, and something being unfunny. I have to say that this show was just not funny. It wasn’t like I was missing the joke, it was that it wasn’t actually there for anyone to get. And I can not imagine what watching this show would be like if I was an actual fan of the original. The show, which centers around a mother and her bratty "trophy wife" wannabe daughter, had really no redeemable quality or an actual plot I would be interested in. The characters were not just unlikable, but more annoying and forgettable than any I have seen recently. I couldn't understand if they were actually vacant or stupid, or just being that ironically. Either way, I was completely baffled how this poop got a green light. Anyways, I know NBC will give a few more weeks to really stink and then pull it, but I will not be bothering checking this out again.

George Carlin - Simply put RIP.....

As you all may know, George Carlin, genius comedian and social commenter, passed away this weekend at 71 from heart failure. To say that Carlin was an original, pioneer and bright shining light in a world of sheeps, would be an understatement. The man who became famous for his ”Seven Dirty Words” act act will be remembered for his tenacity to holler at those who were not smart enough to find truth for themselves. His rants on free speech, feminism, anti-religion sentiments and the government were not only witty, but were intelligently researched and performed, making him a hero to many. Carlin was also the kind of comedian and pop culture icon that could give a crap about his image and would never worry about being the butt of the joke. A job was a job and a joke was a joke to George. He would not want us going on and on about how sad it is to lose him, but he would prefer for us to laugh it off and grill some freaky Catholic. Without Carlin and his routines, Bill Maher, Dennis Miller and Lewis Black, among others, would not have been able to so easily move into the arena of political comedians. And without him, Bill and Ted would have not been such a great flick.
