Rashida Jones joins Amy Poehler for Non-Spinoff to "The Office"......

As you can tell,The Spielster loves anything having to do with Ms. Amy Poehler. I mean the lady rapped and danced around on national TV at Midnight, six days before popping out a kid. So I have been waiting on pins and needles for any more information on the new mysterious Amy Poehler project on NBC.



















So far the cast seems like comedic gold, with Poehler and Aziz Ansari, from Human Giant fame, starring in the comedy produced by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur from “The Office”. While originally it was expected to be a full on “The Office” spin-off, the newest cast announcement confirms that this is NOT true. Michael Schur, has announced that the one time “Office” star, Rashida Jones, will be joining the cast. He has also confirmed that her character will NOT be Karen Fillipelli, the jilted girlfriend of Jim and manager of another Dunder Mifflin branch after her departure from the Scranton office. When discussing the upcoming non-spinoff spinoff, Schur had this to say about his newest addition to the cast, “"She is perfect for this new show, which -- just to remind everyone -- is not a spinoff of 'The Office. It is a spinoff of 'MASH' called 'Seinfeld II.' "

The show is said to be in production as we speak, which I find a bit hard to believe considering they are still casting, no plot points are known and their main star just had a baby two weeks ago, but who knows. Jones will be seen next will two of my Hollywood crushes, Paul Rudd and Jason Segel in ”I Love You Man”, which will be released in theaters early next year.

Daily Rounds....Obamamania Edition....

So now that my faith in humanity has returned and I can face problems like personal credit card debt and what to do with my lazy ass on a Friday night, let’s discuss some pop culture nuggets. Here is the return of your Daily Rounds and it’s a week’s worth of goodies.

* First, I would be remiss to not discuss the Obama/Biden win and say how wonderfully amazing it is to have two politicians who speak the truth, sometimes too much of the truth, come into the White House. I am very much looking forward to January 20th, 2009.

* And here comes the bloodshed within the Republican party. Even though John McCain, during his very graceful concession speech on Tuesday night, blamed the loss of his campaign on himself, the same can not be said for many of his advisors who pointing some really dirty fingers towards Governor Palin. The accusations upon the VP hopeful have ranged to her comfort standing in a towel in front of male campaign staffers to the idea that she was not aware that Africa was NOT a country. Um, and this is supposed to discredit her for a run in 2012? Shouldn’t this have discredited her from the run in 2008? Oh Repugs.

* There’s a good chance Blur might be getting back together. Damon Albarn, who has consistently shot down the idea, said a reunion was “very possible” in an interview with the BBC earlier this month. Damon and onetime Blur band mate, Graham Coxon, who are notorious for disliking each other beyond the point of reconciliation, recently sat down for lunch and have begun discussing the possibility of making music together once again. So if 2009 brings Blur around, as well as Jane’s Addiction, it will officially be my favorite year, well at least for now.

* David Lynch has just signed a deal with On Networks to produce a series, based on his book Catching the Big Fish” for the web. The media company has recently scored a few big names to bring new programming to the web, such as Amy Poehler with her ”Smart Girls at The Party” program, which features young girls and their stories in pursuit of self-confidence. Lynch’s show will focus on the Director’s interest in Transcendental Meditation.

* This Q&A with the creators of “How I Met Your Mother” doesn’t let us know who the mom will finally be, but it does clue us in on the behind the scenes stuff and if they planned Robin and Barney making out in the first season.

* I think I found a new comedy crush. Um SNL, you taking notes?

* The Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be releasing a new album next year. They say it will be different, but I say I will be the judge of that.

* Melissa Etheridge wonders if those who voted against her right to marry think she should still pay taxes or treated like a true second class citizen. I like this idea.

* And finally, Zack and Miri came in at number two last weekend at the box office, but you’ll hear what I think of the movie later this week. Warning…it’s a mixed bag.

SNL gets it right....

Last night, Will Ferrell stopped by the last prime-time “Saturday Night Live” of the election cycle to reprise his wonderful impression of our sitting President George W. Bush. Honestly, the dude is the best W. that I have seen! Anyways, Ferrell’s W. visited with Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin and gave her some advice for “important job”. Some mockery oh John McCain, Dick Cheney and others followed. Here’s the video so you can see the faux awkwardness between Bush and the new Republican candidates.



And word is that Maya Rudolph will be reuniting with her onetime fellow cast mates to embody Michelle Obama this weekend on “SNL”, which will be hosted by the insanely hot John Hamm from “Mad Men”. Rudolph will also be appearing in probably the show’s last “Bronx Beat” with Amy Poehler who is set to depart from the show after the election in preparation for the birth of her first child.

Sarah Palin stops by SNL...and Amy Poehler wins...

Yeah yeah Sarah Palin did a few jokes during her guest appearance on Saturday Night Live this past weekend and she locked arms with Alec Baldwin and neither of the two spontaneously combusted. Apparently, she was nice, courteous and open to poking fun at herself, qualities anyone in the public eye can surely benefit from. I can't say if she is actually funny because they didn't give her much to work with on the show, even though she was on camera three times. I do wish that there was more interaction with Tina Fey, although Ms. Fey might have asked for it that way, and want Tina wants Lorne grants. As Alec Baldwin pointed out in his round up for HuffPo, this is a parody sketch comedy show, not Meet The Press, so there was only so much they can do and I am sure a lot of things were gone over with a fine toothed comb. SNL did manage did manage to score its highest ratings in fourteen years with Palin's guest appearance on Oct. 18th, the highest viewer turnout since Nancy Kerrigan stopped by after the Tonya Harding incident. And while the show was its usual bore, the real hilarity came, as it has been for weeks, during Weekend Update. This season, as SNL usually does, is strongest around the political commentary. And while some see it as skewering of Palin or Hillary Clinton, I see it as supporting its strongest comedians, the women cast members. Sarah Palin stepped up to the plate, but it was truly Amy Poehler who hit a home run, per usual, with the "Palin Rap". ENJOY!



While many have dissected what this means for the McCain/Palin ticket, I was more interested in why likability somehow means electability in America? Of course after appearing on SNL many people decided they like Gov. Palin more today than they did yesterday. But because she can laugh at a joke and read correctly from a teleprompter, that should grant her access to the second most important position within our nation? This is what I do not get about the Republicans or half of the American voters out there. We already voted in a President we would like to have beer with and we are now in two wars and a looming depression. I had no doubt Palin wouldn't fail on SNL, but in America's eyes whenever Palin doesn't fail, she wins. I would assume that since America has grown accustomed to pathetic leaders who just barely make sense when speaking and fuck up 75% of the time as adequate enough that this somehow gives Palin even more traction. But lets remember that someone must succeed to win and in regards to her performance on Saturday, there was no success there for Palin. There was some success for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. And now the big question for SNL is what Lorne will do without his artillery of funny ladies by his side.

It's a great day for the ladies!!!

So today is definitely a great day for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Their movie ”Baby Mama” hit number one at the box office this past weekend. A lot of entertainment insiders are hoping that this can confirm to executives that women DO like funny comedies that celebrate real life situations and that utilize some of the immensely talented comediennes in the business! Let's make sure this movie stays on top!





And following up this good news, Amy Poehler and her hubby Will Arnett confirmed that they are pregnant with their first child. The randomly baggy outfit Amy wore to the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of “Baby Mama” had tongues wagging about the possibility of her being pregnant. I am extremely excited for the adorable couple and am sure the kid will be born with ability to make others laugh, like mommy and daddy. Today is a good day for funny ladies!
