This is Why I Love Living in NYC!!!

Today is the sort of day that makes it real easy to become sad about living in New York. It's hard not to remember what happened here seven years ago and that truly it could happen again. Everywhere I went today, I felt it - on the Subways, in my office building, even in the little park by my house. It's sometimes difficult to live in a city where so many things remind you of a terrible day. And there is an element of panic that can come over you so easily because of it. So it was a pleasant surprise getting off my subway stop on the way home from work and saw that they were filming Ugly Betty. I live in an area of NYC - LIC to be exact - where this is literally a weekly occurance. If they aren't filming a TV show, then they are filming a movie and if its not that, then its a commercial. But today, to see Lindsay Lohan dressed up like a fast food waitress and America Ferrera in her Ugly Betty garb put a smile on my face. For all you new readers, if there is one celebrity I adore its Lohan. Not sure its the freckled face Irish in me, that we went to the same high school or the fact that I think she is truly a great actress, but I have always known she would be huge.

Recently she has had the good fortune of things picking back up for her in Hollywood after scandals so bad everyone in the business thought she would be through as an actress. It seems that with quality friends and loved ones around her, she got her stuff together and is working hard at working. It's bizarre to me that everywhere she goes, like earlier this week when she stopped by Charlotte Ronson's runway show at Bryant Park with Samantha, she is barraged with cameras. I mean even my little nerdy butt was standing on the street corner taking pics of her rehearsing earlier today. Recently, I have received a few emails asking me what I think about Lohan and her "change" from readers who know how much I like her. Well honestly, I think its great. I love that Hollywood can remain a place where stars are made and that it is entirely possible to be on the ground one day and at the top of the ladder the next. I think its awesome that my hometown girl has found herself someone that makes her happy and cares about her (Seriously, the Ronsons have to be the hottest family around). And I am even more excited that someone who does have talent and drive is back on the path to actual stardom. We live in a world where celebrity is no longer based on talent, but over saturation. We also live in a world where redemption is a friend to many so it is exciting to see someone who could have lost getting it back. So I hope she has fun during the rest of her time here and hey Linds, if you get bored, give me a ring. Just make sure not bring this guy next time I see you!

Uma Thurman's Stalker Found Guilty.....

Uma Thurman just got a bit of justice, since her accused stalker of two and half years was was found guilty of the charges in a New York City courtroom yesterday. Jordan was found guilty of the charges that came from his various letters, appearances at the actress’ house and his sheer determination to be around her whenever he could. He also called her two children from ex-husband Ethan Hawke and illusion.

What’s interesting about this case is there was a Wall Street Journal reporter on the jury and she has writtenabout her experience and the reason why the jury found him guilty of one count of stalking and one count of aggravated harassment. Emily Steele, the WSJ reporter goes into great detail about the jury process and how they came to the final verdict. It was interesting to hear about the twelve people who ultimately decide this man and many other accused criminal’s fates. It was appreciated that Ms. Thurman’s case was not handled any differently because she was a celebrity. Jordan faces up to a year and half in prison for the charges.

Eliot Ness would never be this stupid...

So yesterday afternoon us here in New York found out our Governor, you know the one who came in with guns blazing saying he would clean up the mess of corruption in the New York State government, was schtooping a prostitute.

Elliot Spitzer has since made a cute little speech about how sorry he is for being an idiot and that he was supposed to uphold the law and instead he boinked a lady in Washington D.C. and paid her thousands of dollars. He of course dragged his poor and embarrassed wife out so she could stand behind him while he gave this "humble" speech and she looked as impressed at his revelations as I do when I see the American Idol contestants. Ironically, the former Attorney General, who made a name for himself crusading against big business and illegal rings, was brought down yesteday by the same stings he used himself.

So I wonder, when will male politicians learn to keep it in their pants?? If you notice, you never hear about Nancy Pelossi or Dianne Feinstein cheating on their mates with interns, prostitutes or the boy in the bathroom stall next to them. And don't even front like men aren't attracted to these ladies in power. So what's the deal dudes? Are you this lonely? Are your wives really holding out on you so badly you would throw your careers and the lives of your constituents away for some hot sexy action? I mean Spitzer has a very attractive wife, who seems like she has it together since she hasn't murdered him yet for embarrassing her so badly, so what's the deal? And if you morons are going to cheat, let's take a cue from the mob. The made men are smart about their practices outside the marriage. They get some cute, young girl from Staten Island, who only wants an apartment, fancy dinners and a bunch of chunky gold jewelry and they keep her happy. They don't rock the waters and they seem to not get caught. You would think after all the years of watching criminals being brought down Spitzer would have learned to cover his tracks. Apparently the man we thought was so smart, is not. Uggh...I can't wait for the two parter on Law & Order. Dick Wolff must love this shit.

Larry David and Evan Rachel Wood to star in next Woody Allen pic.

If this day couldn't get any better, Larry David was cast in the next Woody Allen film. If Carl Reiner steps anywhere near this set, I might die. Allen is marking his return to New York with an upcoming film starring Larry David and Evan Rachel Wood. I am super excited about this because I love these two men immensely and Wood is freaking great (not to mention 8 times better of an actress than Scarlett Johansson). As you will remember, Wood was one of my first "Shining Star" picks when I started this lil ‘ol blog almost TWO years ago. It’s an amazing step in a young actress’ career to become an Allen muse. And this is awesome for David, since his neurotic tendencies can not be brought to life by anyone better(other than David himself) than Woody.

While most of the details of the movie are still being hammered out, we do know that Allen will be staging the movie in his home base. and David will be playing the main character. I will quit my job and live out of a car just to get a PA or walk on or extra role for this movie. As more details surface, the Spielster will be updating you.

DAILY ROUNDS....

Let's start things off today with the best news of the week - RICKY GOT KICKED OFF OF PROJECT RUNWAY!!!!! Oh happy day!! What's amazing is that this is the first time this cry baby did not shed a tear all season. What a punk! Last night's challenge was to create an outfit for the lovely lady wrestlers of the WWE!

While everyone really went for the challenge, Ricky used the worst color, Orange, on his olive skin toned wrestler and basically made a bathing suit. While others failed at the task like Romi and Sweet Pea, Jillian and Christian killed it! But what was super awesome was Chris, who was able to come back earlier on in the season after he had been Auf'd won it. Chris' design was practical, seemed super WWE style and his "diva" LOVED IT! And so did the panel. I am so glad he is finally getting the recognition his hard work deserves. Here is the winning outfit and the designer.

Next week, I think they will be going on their extended field trip, a la a trip to Paris, or something. It's getting super close this time around and I can't wait to figure out who makes it to Bryant Park!!!!!

And now for the rest of the news:

  • + Billy Joel plays one last show at Shea Stadium. Joel will be playing the last live performance in the stadium on July 16th of this year. The METS will be moving to a new stadium adjacent to Shea for their 2009 season. Joel will now join the club of the infamous performers who have rocked out Shea in the past, like the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. I am sure it will be costly, but this will be worth it!

  • + Speaking of the Beatles, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has passed away at age 91. Maharishi, who developed the Transcendental Meditation movement, was well known for his impact on the Beatles in their later years. He also aided Donovan to growth within his spirituality. Maharishi will be mourned by many of his followers in the Transcendental movement, but his passing is not looked upon as tragic thing to them.

  • + Val Kilmer will voice of KITT, the car in the new version of "Knight Rider" NBC is producing. Will Arnett was tapped for the part original, but he recently backed out, leaving an opening for Kilmer.

  • + Rolling Stone breaks down the Britney Spears meltdown. Some of the revelations that RS RSturned up is that she had breast implants as a teenager, she cheated on Timberlake and her family worked her like a dog when she was a child. What a mess.

  • + Kirsten Dunst has reportedly checked herself into rehab. The actress has found her wat to the Cirque Lodge in Utah to squash a few addictions of hers. Word is the death of Heath Ledger recently triggered Dunst to quit the nose candy.

  • +And finally, She & Him, Zooey Deschanel's project with M. Ward are playing some shows in the next few months and their first album will be released on Merge Records on March 18th.

    Aftertnoon Snack

  • Rolling Stone's latest cover ruffles feathers

  • Speaking of a cast member from Hairspray, Democrats have the first gay issue centered debate tonight
  • Chocolate Rain hits TV
  • CMJ announces their 2007 lineup I have to say other then a few bands, this lineup blows. CMJ has gotten progressively worse the past few years and this basically stinks. But don't fret NYers there are good shows coming up this fall.

  • SHOCKER: Michael Lohan speaks out Doesn't anyone have a muzzle? Lohan is speaking out against the tell all Lindsay's ex body guard gave to IN TOUCH magazine. (More on Lohan this Saturday on Spielster
  • Real World returns to LA for its 20th season Oh man...they should just stick Beth in the cast just for shits and giggles. And maybe Jon so he can finally get laid. I mean all these losers are gonna end up here anyway searching for "success" in entertainment (i.e. waiting to go into porn)

And speaking of reality, here is the weekly recap in all reality happenings:
  • Bret kicks out Rodeo and Brandi C from the Rock of Love house

  • "Hells Kitchen" jerks off for an entire episode. We are stuck waiting another week to see which mediocre chef will win the competition
  • Sara N. packs her knives on Top Chef!
  • Scott Baio is still a jerk
  • BRAVO makes me fall in love with another narcissistic asshole from LA
And finally, MTV stoops to its lowest common denominator and puts together the single worst cast of Real World possible. Syndey doesn't deserve this I can already see where this shit is going and I am not a fan...And these bastards get to kick it up in Australia for 4 months. The best part of the first episode was when Parisa didn't want to party anymore, Kelly Anne, sick body from Texas, goes " Then what is she doing on this show? Let's make her cry and send her home." This ain't Big Brother dummy! The (one time) basis of the show was to learn from different people and open your eyes. Not to have threesomes in the jacuzzi with your roommates.
