DAILY ROUNDS

There ain't much happening in the world of entertainment this week so far. Not sure if it's they hysteria over Britney boiling over or the fact the Emmys are this weekend and people are all busy getting colonics and facials to look purrty. With the Fall season of TV starting next week, I am getting a bit more pumped for something to watch other then Top Chef and Flipping Out - especially after my boycott of MTV.

So let's get to the rounds:

  • It doesn’t get cuter then this...Abandoned monkey is healed by wings of love from a pigeon. How can you not love a monkey???? Source
  • Unbelievable! This Friday marks the 20th anniversary of entertaining housewives with Regis Philbin.
  • This is one fight I would tune into. Vegas promoters are trying to get Tommy Lee and Kid Rock to duke it out for real in a ring. Since neither of these fools have valid careers anymore, nor IQs above 90, I am excited that this could be a possibility. Even LL Cool J wants them to do and will front money for the event. Wait, what money LL?
  • Ramona Quimby will be hitting the big screens. And I am saying this now, no FANNINGS allowed.
  • Corey Haim appears drunk and incoherent. Also, his career apparently flat lined in 1991.
  • American Idol is hoping Britney will join them for next season.
After years of Britney bashing, Simon Cowell is interested in bringing her on to work with contestants on next years program. What Britney will be able to teach these young things, I am not sure. This is a singing competition, which she can’t naturally do without the help of auto tuning and with Sunday’s VMA performance, she can’t dance anymore either. Cowell might be really smart and be using this as a “what not to do situation” for the young bucks. Who knows if this moron would even make a smart decision about her career nowadays??

  • Vincent Gallo - still a douchebag and possibly a presidential candidate for the race in 2008. It's not like the Republicans can do any better and with his sexual past and complacency to mediocrity, it would fit right in.
  • Heath Ledger is either boinking one of David Blaine's ladies, Helena Christensen or Kate Bosworth. In any case, he is definitely over Michelle Williams.
  • So far the numbers aren't looking good for 50 Cent in his battle against Kanye West. West's "Graduation" is beating out the rapper's "Curtis" with around 100,000 additional copies sold. But neither of the artists are anywhere close to their last album sales numbers. 50 Cent has said if he doesn't out sell West, he will retire from solo work. And people don't forget that these two are basically on the same record label so upped sales for both of them mean good things.

    And finally,
People Magazine names their best and worst dressed of 2007. Somehow with their old lady styles, Katie Holmes and Beyonce top the Best, along with stylish Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Biel. Congrat, I think, ladies....

    DAILY ROUNDS

    Let's get it to it...

  • Thank you TMZ for creating a thousand new nightmare possibilities with this picture. 2007 is the downfall year for chicks that were hot in 1999 - Britney, Jenna Jameson, Jennifer Love Hewitt.
  • Led Zeppelin reunite....for one show in London. At least this saves me from having to get on a bus to Giants Stadium with 400 dude bros, drunk, singing "Stairway to Heaven".
  • The birth control pill not only keeps babies awayit keeps your boobs in check too. No word yet if it will begin to kick Herpes ass anytime soon.
  • Hayden and Stephen split...The 18 year old starlet finally realized since all the other tartlets are in rehab, in jail or knocked up, she has her pick of LALAland.
  • Jon Stewart will be hosting the Oscars once again. Hopefully Sarah Silverman will watch and learn something.
  • Angelina Jolie might not be nice.In other news, she has four kids, a hot boyfriend and ridiculously big news. So glad I was paying attention today.

    And lastly,
  • Courtney Love gives good mouse.

Jason Preston, boy toy of designer Marc Jacobs, was seen wearing a mouse pin (above image)at a recent NY Fashion Week event. When asked why he couldn't take it off, he informed everyone that it was a present from Courtney Love. You could also get smack or herpes from her too, but most people don't wear that on their lapel for show and tell, jerk off!

    Daily Rounds

Ok so I went on my tantrum, mourned the loss of MTV in my life, watched "Rock of Love" and everything is right with the world again. So let's get to the news today. As one would imagine, on 9/11, this isn't a happening day for gossip or entertainment news. There is a bunch of political stuff to discuss, but it tends to make me mad and I would prefer to get on the happy side this evening. So let's get to it:

  • Tom Ford might night like it, but he knows it sells. And yes, I am talking about the vajayjay. NSFW

  • Oh Wah!!!! The Catholic League are whinning about Kathy Griffin dissing those who thank Jesus for everything in her Emmy acceptance speech. May, don't you guys have little kids to protect from priests??? And E! will be censoring her speech when they broadcast the program. So what else is new??? This woman says what she thinks and I love her for it!!!!!!
  • Sex and The City: The Movie wanted to increase the amount of gay males in the audience with their newest edition. They have signed Jennifer Hudson to the feature length film as Carrie's assistant. I am also guessing Ms. Bradshow will be Queen Blogger in this one.
  • Does this girl actually work there? I mean what does she do as "guest list coordinator" that needs an office. And how much money does a club promoter make, while not selling drugs on the side, that they can have this amount of office space???
  • Stephanie Tanner is pregnant and Half of Michelle Tanner is on drugs. Nice going Danny!

  • Can she be any cuter? Reese Witherspoon dishes all, well almost to ELLE magazine for their October issue.
  • Kennedy Center picks it recipients for their 2007 Honors. Those who have received this award are Steve Martin, Diana Ross and Martin Scorcese. The Honors will be presented on December 2nd at the Kennedy Center and will air on CBS later that month, on the 26th. CONGRATS!!!!!!!

And finally, Somber ceremonies acknowledge another anniversary. On this day, please try and connect with a loved one, take a stab at something new and just enjoy what's around you. If there is no better lesson from the horrific attacks of 6 years ago, it is that we are not promised tomorrows. Let's celebrate life today for the gifts we have and keep those who have lost a loved on in our hearts.

  • In the wake of today,

I am not sure which direction I want my posts to go into. I on one hand can discuss the fact that 6 years after the 9/11 attacks we are no closer to any sort of acceptance of the events, nor can we comprehend why they occurred.

All day I have been commenting on Gawker on what the Britney debacle of Sunday means. Did MTV use her? Has America used her? Is she using herself? I pretty much agree with all three. While discussing the issue with some of my comment buddies, we began discussing the sexualizing of kids - especially females in this country. I would like to just put up one of my posts from the conversation here and I really would like to hear some feedback from you my readers.

    -----------------------------------------

Please read the whole article The Truth About Britney and then this comment.

"I think what is dangerous about Britney is that we, the royal we of American entertainment spectators, created her. We have turned watching celebrities, especially young, naive and coverage hungry women, into a sport. The problem is this girl is playing along and I think to some point can not live without being in the limelight. She could have easily slinked back a few years ago and grown up. She could have said "Stay the fuck out of my business!" But instead she put the train wreck on parade.

America is definitely partly to blame and its a two fold problem. The first is our recent acceptance of mediocrity (lip synching singers, dumb Presidents, faulty administrations). Still to this day it pisses me off when you hear morons explain Bush just sitting there on 9/11/01 and say "He did the best he could." Really is that acceptable? When did just sort of trying become admirable in this country? This attitude is everywhere - supermarkets, wall street, at my own desk - but its huge right now in the music industry. Spears hasn't sang a note in public in probably 4 years and no one seems to mind this.

And the second one is - We over sexualized most of our young woman stars - i.e. "Rolling Stone" cover of Spears in a her undies at age 16. We let Brooke Shields lay naked at age 12 as a prostitute in a movie. I believe Jodie Foster was 14 in Taxi Driver. Don't get me started on the perverse conversations that occurred until the 18th birthdays of the Olsen Twins. We spray tan 6 year olds for beauty pageants. And whats really bizarre is once these girls actually begin partaking in "sexual activities" we freak out. We splatter the news of Britney making out with men all over the covers of magazines. We mock her for "becoming a woman" too soon, because all the media wanted was a sexual plaything.

Do I think she has played a major role in the demise of an artificial career? Yeah because unlike a lot her counter parts she lacks talent and more importantly creativity and free thinking. What we saw on Sunday was a just teenage brat not wanting to do what was asked of her? And thats her prerogative, but if you don't want to do it, then don't."

Did you hear the one about Britney????

Ok, so topic of the day unfortunately was not the Patraeus Report, which outlined, if any, progress in Iraq. It was not the conversation that we are a day away from the 6th anniversary of the September 11th attacks and it definitely wasn't the death of Jane Wyman, thefirst Mrs. Reagan.....It was this craptacular performance.

I truly don't where to go with this one. I have chatted about this all day....with strangers on the street, coworkers, friends. Hell I am shocked my grandma didn't ring me up so we could discuss it. All I have to say is thank you to MTV for making it easy to dissolve the long standing relationship we have had. After years of going back and forth, I think it is safe to say you and I will no longer be doing business together. My interest in your programming about spoiled rich kids, spoiled celeb kids, horny college kids and the all around parasites on culture you manage to build your franchise is done. And I believe if it safe to say I will not be the only person you spent much marketing cash on that will jumping the MTV ship. You have been replaced as TASTE MAKER OF AMERICA'S YOUTH. Your goal to spread mediocrity has succeeded and unfortunately, damaged yourself during the process.

I think about your all too important presence on my adolescence, where it was your station that brought me images and information on music and bands that I loved. It with the help of your channel, I first figured out the conformity was not a necessity. It was there where I saw people with dyed hair, tattoos, playing guitars, spitting, living in LA and I was enthralled. Now for all the naysayers, I am aware that MTV was about marketing back in the early 1990's as well, but it was selling a view point I never saw before that. I grew up on Long Island, in a middle class family, with no brothers, sisters or cousins within 25 years of my age to lead me down an informative path when it came to music. MTV helped through this dilemma and many others throughout the US. In the mid -90's, MTV spread underground and alternative music, both on the rock and hip hop side, and brought a different feel to the business. I saw videos from Jane's Addiction, Tribe Called Quest, Chili Peppers, Butthole Surfers, De La Soul and others and I became excited about music. They also continued the social experiment, The Real World where you saw cast members deal with real issues, such as alcoholism, AIDS, religion, race, etc. and when The State and Idiot Box were programs on the channel. (I know they cancelled both of them, so settle down.) As the nighties wore on, MTV changed directions again and reverted to the bubble gum pop machine of yore and kids ate that up too. But in the past five years, MTV has been on steady decline. Show after show focused on uninteresting brats, slutty college girls and rich jerks. There were a few highs- Jackass, although talk about celebrating mediocrity and the lows, pretty much all of the casts of reality programming since 2002. But the disappearance of the core of MTV - music videos - has been the biggest low. When MTV does play one of the five videos on it rotation, they play it to death to the point of nausea. Its a joke that MTV even held the VMAs this year. The VMAs of the past were celebrations of artists who were all over the network and for promotion of Fall movies. But at least before you knew what videos were nominated because you actually saw them on the channel. I am not sure who told MTV executives people wanted less music on one of the only stations dedicated to music, but let's just say they were misguided. In the past two years, Myspace and YouTube have been taking over the job as trend awareness for the ages 14-35. MTV has lost its relevance each year and has official become the joke of the industry. With last night's programming, MTV stooped to a level I didn't think they were bold enough for - they really thought we were dumb enough to like what they shit out. These type of programs take months in the making and this is what they came up with - really? I mean do you really have that much distaste for the people that sign your paychecks? I know you have been grasping at straws recently, since your only program doing anything good ratings wise has as much drama as a six grade fight, but this is really what you thought might bring the people back? I know there have been months of discussions of re tooling your efforts and I really thought you started understanding your audience, the ones who have left and lost interest and you were going to go back to showing videos and promoting music. And then I saw the never ending promos for this shit can and I realized, you don't give a crap about your past, present or future viewers. You are a company who has no problem selling your customer crap and here is the proof one last time that any salvageable credibility you had is lost.

And I would like to say a final fuck you to you too!

    I'm a bad bad blogger...

With this past weekend's weather and lack of cool information within the entertainment arena, I have stepped back from my daily duties of blogging and enjoyed a long weekend at the beach. I am now back in NYC and still bored to tears with the news in H-wood, but a writer's dilemma is to write about things when nothing is really happening.

So to start off, I would like to thank Nouvelle Vague and their cover of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" with me winning today on Jonesy's Jukebox on Indie 103.1.

All this week Steve Jones is running a contest to join the man in Hawaii for a week of broadcasting fun. I am now entered into that prize option and might possibly be chilling with one of the raddest dudes to ever touch down in LA LA land. Listen to Mr. Jones from 12PM - 2PM PST every weekday on 103.1 or listen online. I make sure to check out the show everyday from my computer all the way in NYC. Wish me luck!
